The southwest Virginia heatwave is back for another few days. In fact, it gets even hotter before it gets cooler.
TONIGHT Not a whole lot of relief from the heat overnight as lows will likely only fall into the low to mid 70s for many under mostly clear skies.
SATURDAY & SUNDAY The big story will end up being the dangerous heat and humidity which lingers for the next few days. This will allow for triple digit heat index values by this afternoon for areas into the Piedmont. Actual high temperatures this weekend will soar into the mid and upper 90s, but when you add the humidity it will feel more like 100-109°.
EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNINGS have been issued for Central VA and Southside through the weekend. This includes Appomattox, Buckingham, Charlotte, and Halifax Counties where heat index values could reach 105 to 110 degrees.
During the afternoon, a few scattered showers and storms are possible, but nothing widespread is expected. The storms may cool you down briefly, but only make it more humid after the storm exits.
NEXT WEEK A cold front will move through the region sometime early next week dropping our temperatures back down into the low to mid 80s by Tuesday. It will also bring back a better chance of showers and storms. We should hold in the mid 80s through next Thursday.
